"What level of finish do I need?" is the question we hear most. Drywall finishes are graded from Level 0 to Level 5 — and the right one depends on the room, the lighting, and how it'll be painted. Here's the plain-English version.
No taping or finishing. Typically used for temporary construction or when the final finish has not yet been determined.
Basic fire-tape finish for garages, attics, and areas above ceilings. Joints are taped, but tool marks and ridges are acceptable.
A functional finish commonly used in garages, utility rooms, warehouses, or areas that will be covered with tile. Joints and fasteners receive a coat of joint compound.
Recommended for walls that will receive heavy texture. Joints receive additional coats of compound to create a more uniform surface before texturing.
The standard finish for most homes. Ideal for smooth walls and ceilings painted with flat or low-sheen paint. Joints, corners, and fasteners receive multiple coats for a clean, professional appearance.
Our highest-quality finish. A skim coat is applied over the entire surface to create the smoothest possible walls and ceilings. Recommended for areas with large windows, critical lighting, or high-end finishes where imperfections are most visible.
Not sure which finish level you need? We’ll recommend the appropriate finish based on your lighting, paint sheen, texture, and budget so you get the best value for your project.
